How can I maintain my orthopaedic shoes?

Upon delivery of the custom-made shoes, you will receive a free maintenance kit with the appropriate products.

Who gets to prescribe orthopaedic shoes?

The HZIV provides partial reimbursement for orthopaedic soles and shoes. For this, you need a prescription from a specialist in (orthopaedic) surgery, neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, rheumatology, paediatrics, neurology or neuropsychiatry.

When am I entitled to reimbursement for new orthopaedic soles?

  • up to 16 years 1 X per year partial reimbursement (depending on insurance how much)
  • adults 1 x every 2 years

When am I entitled to a refund for new orthopaedic shoes?

  • Every 9 months if you are under 18 years old
  • Every year if you are between 18 and 65 years old
  • After 1 or 2 years (depending on the severity of the condition) if you are over 65 years old

How much do I have to pay myself?

The price and amount of the refund can vary greatly from case to case. The brake fee you have to pay yourself is minimum EUR 41,86 and maximum EUR 209,10 per shoe.

Am I entitled to service and warranty on the orthopaedic shoes?

The warranty is 3 months on fit and 6 months on materials. The average useful life of orthopaedic shoes strongly depends on the material, use and walking pattern. Regarding the material and technical quality of the product, a warranty of 3 months after delivery applies.
